An 18-Day Private Morocco Journey for Mothers and Daughters
This mother and daughter Morocco holiday is built on longer stays and breathing room between activities, so you can share the experiences that matter and still have time simply to be together.
It is designed for mothers and adult daughters, and it can be adapted for younger daughters, grandmothers or larger family groups once we understand your needs. Nothing is assumed about who wants to walk further or rest longer: you tell us, and we plan accordingly. Some transfers are still substantial, especially from Merzouga to Fes, and we are open about that from the start.
You travel in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle with an English-speaking driver, explore Marrakech and Fes with licensed city guides, and stay in thoughtfully chosen accommodation. The journey is planned by Hakim and Aziz, family members from Merzouga who lead Moroccan Desert Trips and have each worked in tourism for more than 15 years; the desert days are planned with the knowledge of people who call it home.

Mothers & Daughters Morocco Journey, Day by Day
Each day separates driving from sightseeing, walking and free time, with estimated transfer times and included, optional and suggested experiences clearly labeled.
Arrive in Marrakech — A Warm Welcome Together
Day 1 begins with a private airport transfer to your riad and time to rest and settle in together.
Your driver meets you at Marrakech Airport and takes you to your riad. Have tea in the courtyard, unpack and rest. If you arrive early and feel like it, take a short walk or watch the sunset from a roof terrace; otherwise, simply enjoy being here.
Key experiences
- Private airport transfer (included)
- Time to rest and settle in
Pace: Arrival day; nothing scheduled.
Marrakech — Discover the Medina at Your Pace
Day 2 is a guided introduction to Marrakech with a licensed city guide, adapted to how much each of you enjoys walking.
Explore a selection of historic sights and artisan quarters with your guide, with tea breaks along the way and shorter routes available if you prefer. Specific visits and entrance fees are agreed in advance. The rest of the day is free for the riad, a garden or the souks.
Key experiences
- Licensed Marrakech city guide (included)
- Selected sights and artisan areas (entrance fees as agreed)
- Free afternoon
Pace: Half a day of guided walking, with shorter options.
Marrakech — Cook Together with a Local Family
Day 3 centres on a pre-arranged cooking experience in a family home, where a suitable host is available, ending with the meal you prepare together.
Shop for ingredients, then cook Moroccan dishes such as a tagine and seasonal salads side by side, before sitting down to share them. Dietary requirements, kitchen facilities, language support and how hands-on each of you wants to be are confirmed beforehand. If a home-based experience cannot be arranged for your dates, we propose a cooking studio instead.
Key experiences
- Cooking class and shared meal (included once confirmed)
- Cooking studio alternative if a home host is not available
- Free time afterwards
Pace: A relaxed, social day.
Marrakech → Atlas Mountains — Settle into Mountain Quiet
Day 4 is a short drive to a mountain lodge chosen to fit the onward route over the High Atlas to Skoura, followed by a relaxed afternoon.
Because the next stage crosses the High Atlas toward Ait Ben Haddou, we propose a lodge in the Ourika Valley or along the Tizi n'Tichka road, rather than the Imlil area, which would add considerable driving later. We confirm accommodation and road access before booking. Spend the afternoon on the terrace or walking in the grounds.
Key experiences
- Private transfer to the Atlas (included)
- Afternoon at the lodge
Pace: Roughly 1 to 2 hours of driving, depending on the lodge (estimate).
Atlas Mountains — Gentle Walks & Time to Reconnect
Day 5 offers an optional walk with a local guide, adapted to both of your preferences, and plenty of unhurried time together.
Walk between villages and terraced fields with your guide, choosing a longer route or a shorter outing; terrain and duration are confirmed once the lodge is chosen. Or skip the walk and spend the day reading, talking and enjoying the mountain air.
Key experiences
- Guided walk with a local guide (included; optional to join)
- Shorter outing or lodge-based alternative
- Generous free time
Pace: Gentle; as much or as little as you like.
Atlas Mountains → Ait Ben Haddou → Skoura
Day 6 crosses the High Atlas from your mountain lodge to the south, with a visit to Ait Ben Haddou if the timing works, and arrival in Skoura.
The route depends on the lodge: from the Ourika Valley or the Tichka road, the natural crossing is the Tizi n'Tichka pass. Stop at viewpoints, then explore the earthen ksar of Ait Ben Haddou once we have confirmed the routing and visit time, before continuing past Ouarzazate to Skoura.
Key experiences
- Private transfer over the High Atlas (included)
- Ait Ben Haddou visit (if routing and timing allow)
- Scenic stops
Pace: A substantial transfer: roughly 3 to 5 hours of driving depending on the lodge, plus stops (estimate).
Skoura — A Full Day in the Palm Oasis
Day 7 is a relaxed day in Skoura's palm oasis, with an optional guided walk and a kasbah visit.
Walk through the palm groves with a local guide, keeping to paths where access is permitted, since many plots are private farmland. Visit a selected kasbah, such as Kasbah Amridil where access is confirmed. Then slow down: read by the pool, have a long lunch, watch the light change over the palms.
Key experiences
- Guided palm-grove walk (optional)
- Kasbah visit, such as Kasbah Amridil (where access is confirmed)
- Free time at your accommodation
Pace: Easy and unhurried.
Skoura → Valley Landscapes → Dades Valley
Day 8 is a short travel day along the valley road to the Dades Valley, with scenic stops and a relaxed arrival.
Follow the road past kasbahs and rose fields, stopping where the views invite. In the Dades Valley, take a gentle walk or visit a viewpoint over the rock formations, rather than a demanding hike.
Key experiences
- Scenic stops along the valley
- Gentle walk or viewpoint visit (optional)
- Relaxed evening
Pace: Roughly 1.5 to 2 hours of driving (estimate).
Dades Valley → Todra Gorge → Merzouga
Day 9 includes a short visit to the Todra Gorge and the onward drive to the dunes of Erg Chebbi.
Walk a short way into the Todra Gorge between its high walls, then continue east with comfort and lunch breaks. Arrive near the dunes in the late afternoon and keep the evening restful at your hotel or riad.
Key experiences
- Todra Gorge stop and short walk
- Private transfer to Merzouga (included)
Pace: Roughly 5 hours of driving, plus stops (estimate).
Merzouga — Desert Discovery & Sunset Together
Day 10 balances a little exploration with rest, ending with sunset in the dunes and the option of a luxury camp night.
Rest in the morning or, where it is arranged, visit Khamlia to hear Gnawa music or share tea with local hosts as invited guests. In the late afternoon, ride a camel or take a 4×4 into the dunes, according to preference and availability, and watch Erg Chebbi glow at sunset. A luxury camp night with a private bathroom can be proposed; if chosen, we confirm meals, tent arrangements, access and any heating or air conditioning. If you prefer, stay at the hotel instead.
Key experiences
- Sunset by camel or 4×4 (included as agreed)
- Khamlia or local hosts (where confirmed)
- Luxury camp night (optional) or hotel
Pace: Easy; the desert sets the pace.
Merzouga → Ziz Valley → Middle Atlas → Fes
Day 11 is one of the journey's longest road days, crossing from the Sahara to Fes with sensible breaks and little sightseeing.
Head north through the Ziz Valley and over the Middle Atlas, stopping for lunch and rest. Splitting this journey is possible, but it means adding a night or giving up a night elsewhere; we discuss the trade-off openly when planning.
Key experiences
- Private transfer to Fes (included)
- Meal, scenic and comfort breaks
Pace: A long day: roughly 7 to 8 hours of driving, plus breaks (estimate).
Fes — Heritage with a Licensed Guide
Day 12 is a paced walk through the Fes medina with a licensed guide, with routes adapted to you.
Your guide leads you through selected monuments and historic lanes, with breaks for tea and lunch. The medina is pedestrian-only, with uneven surfaces and steps, so we agree the route in advance and keep it to a comfortable length.
Key experiences
- Licensed Fes medina guide (included)
- Selected cultural sights (entrance fees as agreed)
- Breaks for tea and lunch
Pace: A morning on foot; relaxed afternoon.
Fes — Crafts, Shopping & Personal Discoveries
Day 13 is about Fes crafts, weaving, ceramics and tilework, with time to shop if you want to and to explore on your own.
Visit artisans at work, with each stop clearly described in advance as a demonstration, a workshop or a shop. Buying is always optional, and you can decline any shopping stop. The afternoon is free for relaxation or further exploring.
Key experiences
- Weaving, ceramics or tilework visits (as agreed)
- Optional shopping
- Free afternoon
Pace: Half a day of visits, half a day free.
Fes → Chefchaouen — Into the Rif Mountains
Day 14 is a moderate transfer north to Chefchaouen in the Rif Mountains, with breaks and a relaxed arrival.
Drive through rolling farmland into the hills of the Rif, stopping for coffee along the way. Any detour is assessed for how much it lengthens the day. Arrive in time to settle in and enjoy the evening.
Key experiences
- Private transfer to Chefchaouen (included)
- Rest stops
Pace: Roughly 3.5 to 4 hours of driving (estimate).
Chefchaouen — Blue Lanes & an Unhurried Day
Day 15 starts with an early walk through Chefchaouen's blue lanes and leaves the rest of the day free.
Walk out after breakfast, when streets are often quieter, though never guaranteed empty. The medina sits on a slope with many steps; shorter routes are possible where the layout allows. Spend the rest of the day in cafés, taking photographs or simply resting.
Key experiences
- Early medina walk
- Shorter walking route if preferred
- Free afternoon
Pace: Gentle pace, but slopes and steps throughout.
Chefchaouen → Casablanca — A Comfortable Return South
Day 16 is a substantial transfer back to Casablanca, with breaks along the way.
Leave the mountains after breakfast and drive south toward the coast. A short Rabat stop can be proposed if practical, but not an extensive visit on top of the drive. Arrive in Casablanca with time to rest.
Key experiences
- Private transfer to Casablanca (included)
- Brief Rabat stop (optional, if practical)
Pace: Roughly 4.5 to 5.5 hours of driving, plus breaks (estimate).
Casablanca — A Relaxed Final Day
Day 17 is a calm buffer day before departure, for a little sightseeing, a coastal stroll, shopping or rest.
Walk along the corniche, browse a few shops or relax at the hotel. A Hassan II Mosque visit depends on current opening arrangements and access. There is no long travel today.
Key experiences
- Corniche stroll (suggestion)
- Hassan II Mosque visit (optional, subject to opening arrangements)
- Hotel relaxation
Pace: Free and easy.
Depart Casablanca — Farewell to a Shared Journey
Day 18 ends with a private transfer to Casablanca Airport, timed to your flight with a comfortable buffer.
Enjoy a final breakfast together before your driver takes you to the airport.
Key experiences
- Private departure transfer (included)
Pace: Timing depends on your flight.
Why Does This Journey Work Across Generations?
Because two-night stays in the Atlas and Skoura, three nights in Fes and two final nights in Casablanca give you room to settle in, while private transport and optional activities let each of you choose your own pace.
Longer stays, fewer packing days
Two nights in the mountains and two in the oasis break up the journey south; three nights in Fes allow a guided day and a craft day; two nights in Casablanca leave a calm buffer before your flight.
Flexible mornings and optional activities
Walks, kasbah visits, the camp night and shopping are all optional, so one of you can explore while the other rests.
Being honest about the route
There is a single night in the Dades Valley, several long transfers including Merzouga to Fes, walking on uneven medina lanes, and sand to cross to reach desert camps. If you need shorter travel days, we can extend or revise the itinerary.
Explore more tailor-made Morocco tours or read about the Merzouga desert.
Where Will We Stay, and How Is It Personalized?
We propose boutique riads in Marrakech and Fes, a mountain lodge, an oasis property in Skoura, a valley hotel in Dades, a hotel and optional camp in Merzouga, and comfortable stays in Chefchaouen and Casablanca, all subject to availability.
Rooms and tents
Share a twin room or choose separate rooms; single supplements appear in your quotation. If you choose the camp night, tent arrangements are confirmed in advance.
Access and facilities
A private tour can be adapted, but not every location or property is step-free. During planning we ask about practical mobility, such as stairs, walking distances and getting in and out of vehicles, rather than making assumptions based on age. Bathrooms, stairs, heating, air conditioning and accessibility are confirmed property by property.
Female guides and hosts
Female guides or hosts can be requested, subject to availability.
What Is Included in the Mother–Daughter Journey?
The proposed package includes seventeen nights' accommodation, private air-conditioned transport with an English-speaking driver, arrival and departure transfers, licensed guides in Marrakech and Fes, the cooking class and meal, local guiding for agreed walks and the desert sunset experience; your final quotation confirms every item.

Mothers & Daughters Morocco Journey FAQs
The journey is fully private and adaptable, and anything that depends on availability is confirmed in your quotation before you book.
Is this a private tour?
Yes. Only the two of you, or your family group, travel in the vehicle and join the guided experiences, on dates you choose.
Is it suitable for younger daughters or grandmothers?
It can be adapted after we understand your group's needs. It is designed for mothers and adult daughters; for younger daughters, grandmothers or larger groups we review the pace, walking and transfer days with you first.
What if one of us has limited mobility?
Tell us what is comfortable and we adapt the plan where we can. We ask about practical mobility rather than assuming anything from age, but medinas have steps and uneven lanes and not every property is step-free.
Do we have to share a room?
No. Choose a twin room or separate rooms, including in the camp; single supplements for separate rooms are shown in your quotation.
How does the family cooking class work?
It is a pre-arranged class in a family home where a suitable host is available, ending with a shared meal. Dietary needs, facilities and language support are confirmed beforehand; if a home host is not available for your dates, we propose a cooking studio.
Can you cater for dietary needs?
Usually, if we know in advance. Share vegetarian, vegan, allergy or other needs and we confirm them with each property, the camp and the cooking host.
Do we stay in a desert camp or a hotel?
Your first Merzouga night is in a hotel or riad; the second can be a luxury camp or the hotel, as you prefer. If you choose the camp, we confirm meals, tent arrangements, access and heating or air conditioning.
Do we have to ride a camel?
No. You can reach the sunset dunes by 4×4 instead, according to preference and availability.
How long are the transfers?
Most are moderate, but Merzouga to Fes is roughly 7 to 8 hours and Chefchaouen to Casablanca roughly 4.5 to 5.5 hours, plus breaks (estimates). Splitting a long day means adding a night or moving one, and we discuss that trade-off openly.
Can we customize the itinerary?
Yes, completely. Add or move nights, swap activities, change hotels or shorten travel days; this journey is a proposal shaped around the two of you.
