A 12-Day Private Morocco Tour of Chefchaouen, Fes, Marrakech and the Atlas

This private Chefchaouen, Fes and Marrakech tour trades the usual rush between sights for longer stays, meaningful time with artisans and two restorative nights in the mountains.

It is designed for friends, sisters, couples and anyone who appreciates craftsmanship, comfortable stays and thoughtful pacing, and it sits naturally among our private escapes for women traveling together. Chefchaouen lies in the Rif Mountains of the north; your final mountain stay is in the High Atlas near Marrakech. Of Morocco's imperial cities, you visit two: Fes and Marrakech.

You travel in a private air-conditioned vehicle with an English-speaking driver, explore Fes and Marrakech with licensed city guides, and stay in carefully selected accommodation. The journey is planned personally by Hakim and Aziz, family members from Merzouga who lead Moroccan Desert Trips and have each worked in tourism for more than 15 years.

Your 12-Day Itinerary at a Glance

A night in Casablanca, two in Chefchaouen, three in Fes, three in Marrakech and two in the High Atlas, with two longer road days in between.

Imperial Cities & Blue Mountains Escape, Day by Day

Each day is marked as a city, artisan, mountain or travel day, with estimated driving times and included, optional and suggested activities clearly separated.

Day 1

Arrive in Casablanca — Welcome to Morocco

Day 1 begins with a private airport transfer to your Casablanca hotel and time to settle in after the flight.

Your driver meets you at Casablanca Airport and takes you to your accommodation. If you arrive early and have energy, take an easy stroll along the Atlantic corniche. A visit to the Hassan II Mosque is possible only if current visiting arrangements and your arrival time allow, and is confirmed in advance.

Key experiences

  • Private airport transfer (included)
  • Corniche stroll (suggestion, time permitting)
  • Hassan II Mosque visit (optional, subject to visiting arrangements)

Pace: Arrival day; nothing essential is scheduled.

Overnight: Casablanca

Day 2

Casablanca → Chefchaouen — Journey to the Rif Mountains

Day 2 is a substantial travel day north to Chefchaouen in the Rif Mountains, with planned comfort and meal breaks.

Leave the coast after breakfast and drive north through farmland and rolling hills into the Rif. If the schedule allows, a short stop in Rabat can be proposed, but the priority is arriving in Chefchaouen relaxed, in time to settle in and enjoy the evening light.

Key experiences

  • Private air-conditioned transfer (included)
  • Meal and rest stops
  • Brief Rabat stop (optional, only if it fits the day)

Pace: Roughly 4.5 to 5.5 hours of driving, plus breaks (estimate).

Overnight: Chefchaouen

Day 3

Chefchaouen — Blue Lanes in the Morning Light

Day 3 starts with an early walk through Chefchaouen's blue lanes, when the streets may be quieter, and leaves the rest of the day free.

Set out after an early breakfast to wander the stepped, blue-washed lanes as the town wakes up. Later, linger in cafés, take photographs and browse small shops for woven goods. The medina is built on a slope with many steps, so we pace the walk to the group. For those who want it, an evening walk to a viewpoint above town offers a sunset over the rooftops.

Key experiences

  • Early morning medina walk
  • Free time for cafés, photography and shopping
  • Sunset viewpoint walk (optional, according to mobility and interest)

Pace: Gentle, but with slopes and steps throughout.

Overnight: Chefchaouen

Day 4

Chefchaouen → Fes — A Relaxed Arrival

Day 4 is a moderate transfer to Fes, with a gentle introduction to the city after check-in.

Drive south through the hills of the Rif foothills toward Fes, with breaks along the way. After checking in to your riad or hotel, take a short orientation walk or simply rest. Extended sightseeing waits for the next two days.

Key experiences

  • Private transfer to Fes (included)
  • Short orientation walk (suggestion)

Pace: Roughly 3.5 to 4 hours of driving, plus breaks (estimate).

Overnight: Fes

Day 5

Fes — Medina Heritage with a Licensed Guide

Day 5 is a guided exploration of the Fes medina with a licensed guide, paced with breaks.

Walk the historic lanes of Fes el-Bali with a licensed guide, visiting selected monuments, fountains and traditional trades. Specific visits and entrance fees depend on the program agreed with you. Stop for lunch and mint tea, and keep the late afternoon free.

Key experiences

  • Licensed Fes medina guide (included)
  • Selected historic sites (entrance fees as agreed)
  • Free late afternoon

Pace: A full morning of walking on uneven lanes, with breaks.

Overnight: Fes

Day 6

Fes — Weaving, Tilework & Leather Traditions

Day 6 focuses on pre-arranged artisan encounters with weavers, tile makers and leather workers, explained with respect for each craft.

Visit artisans in their workshops: watch weavers at their looms, see how zellige tiles are cut and set, and learn how leather is prepared and worked. Each visit is confirmed in advance as a demonstration, a studio visit or a hands-on activity; participation is offered only where it is arranged. Buying anything is entirely optional. The tanneries have a strong smell and are not to everyone's taste, so anyone can skip them and visit a different workshop or rest at the riad instead.

Key experiences

  • Weaving workshop visit
  • Zellige tilework demonstration or studio visit
  • Leather workshop or tannery viewpoint (optional; alternatives available)

Pace: An unhurried day focused on a few workshops rather than many.

Overnight: Fes

Day 7

Fes → Marrakech — Across Morocco

Day 7 is one of the journey's longest road days, crossing Morocco from Fes to Marrakech with sensible breaks and little sightseeing.

Leave Fes in the morning and travel south through the Middle Atlas and across the plains to Marrakech, stopping for meals and rest. This is a travel day rather than a touring day. If you would prefer another arrangement, such as the train, we can discuss it separately.

Key experiences

  • Private transfer to Marrakech (included)
  • Meal and rest stops

Pace: A long day: roughly 7 to 8 hours of driving, plus breaks (estimate).

Overnight: Marrakech

Day 8

Marrakech — Medina, Architecture & Gardens

Day 8 is a guided introduction to Marrakech with a licensed guide, balancing selected sights and artisan areas with a relaxed lunch and free time.

Explore the medina with your guide, taking in selected monuments, architecture and craft quarters. Break for a long lunch, then visit a garden or return to the riad. Entry to individual monuments and gardens depends on the agreed program and is not assumed.

Key experiences

  • Licensed Marrakech city guide (included)
  • Selected sights and artisan quarters (entrance fees as agreed)
  • Garden visit (suggestion)

Pace: Morning of guided walking; relaxed afternoon.

Overnight: Marrakech

Day 9

Marrakech at Your Pace — Shared Experiences & Free Time

Day 9 is flexible: choose a shared experience or two, such as a cooking class or hammam, or simply enjoy the city at your own pace.

This is your day. Some groups book a cooking class, others a hammam, others go shopping or spend hours by the riad pool. These experiences are optional unless your quotation includes them, and we recommend no more than one or two so the day stays restful.

Key experiences

  • Cooking class (optional)
  • Hammam or spa (optional)
  • Shopping, cafés or riad time (suggestions)

Pace: As full or as quiet as you like.

Overnight: Marrakech

Day 10

Marrakech → Atlas Mountains — Settle into Mountain Life

Day 10 is a short drive into the High Atlas to a mountain lodge, such as in Ouirgane or the Imlil area, with time to enjoy your surroundings.

Leave the city for the mountains, stopping at viewpoints along the way. We propose a lodge base after confirming accommodation, access and the comfort level you want, and we describe its setting accurately: some lodges look over valleys and orchards, others are tucked into villages. The afternoon is for unwinding.

Key experiences

  • Private transfer to the Atlas (included)
  • Scenic stops
  • Afternoon at the lodge

Pace: Short drive, roughly 1 to 1.5 hours (estimate).

Overnight: Atlas Mountains

Day 11

Atlas Mountains — Gentle Village Walk & Lodge Relaxation

Day 11 offers an optional gentle village walk with a local mountain guide, adapted to your group, and plenty of time to rest.

Walk with your guide along paths between villages, terraces and orchards, learning about Amazigh (Berber) mountain life through respectful, pre-arranged encounters with local hosts. The guide adapts the route to your ability, the terrain and the weather, and a shorter walk or a day at the lodge is always an option. Duration and terrain are confirmed once the lodge is chosen.

Key experiences

  • Gentle guided village walk (optional)
  • Pre-arranged visit with local hosts
  • Afternoon of rest at the lodge

Pace: Gentle; walking time confirmed with the route.

Overnight: Atlas Mountains

Day 12

Atlas Mountains → Marrakech Airport — Departure

Day 12 ends with a private transfer to Marrakech Airport, timed to your flight with a comfortable buffer.

Enjoy a last mountain breakfast before your driver takes you back to Marrakech Airport, allowing realistic road time and an airport buffer. If your flight leaves very early, we may suggest spending the final night in Marrakech instead.

Key experiences

  • Private departure transfer (included)

Pace: Roughly 1 to 1.5 hours to the airport (estimate), depending on the lodge.

No overnight included

Why Does This Itinerary Work So Well?

Because every stop gets enough nights to be enjoyed rather than just seen, and the two longer road days are balanced by unhurried stays on either side.

Two nights in Chefchaouen

You arrive one evening and have a full day to explore before moving on, including that early walk through the blue lanes.

Three nights in Fes

Three nights give you two full days of exploration plus arrival time: one day for the medina's heritage with a licensed guide, one for its artisans.

Three nights in Marrakech

A guided day and a free day let you discover the city together and on your own terms.

Two nights in the Atlas

Ending in the mountains means your last memories are of fresh air, a gentle walk and a lodge terrace, not airport traffic.

A private format that adapts

Skip a visit, add a hammam, linger longer over lunch: the plan follows your group.

An honest word about the road

The Casablanca to Chefchaouen and Fes to Marrakech transfers are long. An extended version can add a night between Fes and Marrakech, in the Middle Atlas for example, or an extra night anywhere you want to slow down further.

Where Will We Stay, and Can We Personalize It?

We propose a comfortable hotel in Casablanca, boutique riads or hotels in Chefchaouen, Fes and Marrakech, and a suitable lodge in the Atlas, each confirmed subject to availability.

Proposed accommodation styles

  • Casablanca: a comfortable hotel convenient for the onward drive north.
  • Chefchaouen, Fes and Marrakech: boutique riads in or near the medinas, or hotels where you prefer more space.
  • High Atlas: a mountain lodge in an area such as Ouirgane or Imlil, chosen for the comfort level you want.

Medina access

Medina properties often involve a walk from the vehicle, stairs and uneven lanes; porters usually help with luggage. Heating, bathrooms, pools, spa facilities and accessibility are confirmed for each property individually.

Rooms, meals and celebrations

Choose twin rooms, separate rooms or a mix; single supplements are shown in your quotation. Tell us about dietary needs and any birthday or anniversary to celebrate. Female guides or hosts can be requested, subject to confirmed availability.

What Is Included in the Imperial Cities Escape?

The proposed package includes eleven nights' accommodation, private air-conditioned transport with an English-speaking driver, arrival and departure transfers, licensed guides in Fes and Marrakech, confirmed artisan visits and a local mountain guide for the village walk; your final quotation confirms every item.

Proposed inclusions

  • Eleven nights in the agreed accommodation
  • Breakfasts and other meals expressly specified
  • Private air-conditioned transport for the agreed route
  • English-speaking driver, fuel, tolls and parking
  • Casablanca arrival and Marrakech departure transfers
  • Licensed city guides in Fes and Marrakech
  • Confirmed artisan visits or workshop activities
  • Local mountain guide for the agreed village walk

Not included

  • Flights and travel insurance
  • Meals and beverages not listed
  • Entrance fees not specified in your quotation
  • Optional cooking classes, hammam and spa treatments
  • Additional activities, shopping, tips and personal expenses

Who does what?

Your English-speaking driver handles the road journeys and is not a guide. Licensed city guides lead the medina days in Fes and Marrakech, and a local mountain guide leads the Atlas walk. During city stays and free days, which are best explored on foot, the vehicle is available only if your quotation includes it.
