Day1

Tangier to Chefchaouen through the Rif Mountains

Day 1 starts with private pickup in Tangier and a drive through the Rif Mountains to Chefchaouen, with time to explore its blue-washed medina before the night there.

Chefchaouen is small enough to explore on foot in the afternoon and evening, once the day visitors have left.

Key stops: Tangier pickup, Rif Mountains, Chefchaouen
Overnight: Chefchaouen

Day2
Long travel day

Chefchaouen to Fes via Volubilis and Meknes

Day 2 is the drive from Chefchaouen to the Roman ruins of Volubilis and the imperial city of Meknes, continuing to Fes for two nights.

UNESCO describes Volubilis as

"an important outpost of the Roman Empire"— UNESCO World Heritage Centre, Archaeological Site of Volubilis

It is quoted here because Volubilis is the only Roman site on the route. Meknes is also a UNESCO World Heritage city. Site visits depend on opening hours and the schedule agreed with you, and entrance fees are extra.

Key stops: Volubilis, Meknes
Overnight: Fes

Day3

Full-day guided tour of Fes

Day 3 is a full guided day in Fes, exploring the medina, its traditional crafts and its historical landmarks.

UNESCO notes that Fes has kept its status as

"the country's cultural and spiritual centre."— UNESCO World Heritage Centre, Medina of Fez

You walk through the souks and craft quarters and visit sites that are open to visitors. The Qarawiyyin and other mosques, and the Royal Palace, are seen from outside; entry to religious buildings isn't possible for non-Muslim visitors.

Key stops: Fes medina, craft quarters, historical landmarks
Overnight: Fes

Day4
Long travel day

Fes to the Merzouga desert via Ifrane, Midelt and Erfoud

Day 4 is a substantial driving day across the Middle Atlas via Ifrane, Midelt and Erfoud to Merzouga, followed by a camel trek to a desert camp for your one night in the Sahara.

The Moroccan National Tourist Office calls Merzouga

"one of the gates of the Sahara"— Moroccan National Tourist Office (Visit Morocco), Errachidia-Midelt-Merzouga

You arrive in time for the camel trek into the dunes, then spend the evening at camp.

Key stops: Ifrane, Midelt, Erfoud, Merzouga
Overnight: Desert camp near Merzouga

Day5
Long travel day

Merzouga to the Dadès Valley via the Todra Gorge

Day 5 is the drive from Merzouga to the Todra Gorge, where you stop to walk, and on to the Dadès Valley for the night.

Key stops: Todra Gorge
Overnight: Dadès Valley

Day6
Long travel day

Dadès Valley to Marrakech via Ouarzazate and Aït Ben Haddou

Day 6 is the drive via Ouarzazate and Aït Ben Haddou, then across the High Atlas to Marrakech, where you stay two nights.

UNESCO describes Aït Ben Haddou as

"a striking example of the architecture of southern Morocco."— UNESCO World Heritage Centre, Ksar of Ait-Ben-Haddou

Sightseeing stops and your arrival time in Marrakech depend on road conditions over the pass and the itinerary agreed with you.

Key stops: Ouarzazate, Aït Ben Haddou, High Atlas
Overnight: Marrakech

Day7

Guided Marrakech city tour

Day 7 is a guided tour of Marrakech's historic medina, its monuments, souks and main square.

UNESCO describes the main square as

The guiding is included. Paid entrances, such as palaces, tombs and gardens, are extra, and the Koutoubia Mosque is seen from outside.

Key stops: Medina, monuments, souks, Jemaa el-Fna
Overnight: Marrakech

Day8
Depends on your flight

Transfer to Marrakech Airport or Casablanca Airport

Day 8 is your departure transfer, either to Marrakech Airport or to Casablanca Airport.
